The making story
One artist's way
I became a glass maker when I was 21 which led to a life as a full time artist for five years, followed by periods of continued part time work ever since. It was another innate dream come true - a very young version of me knew she wanted to be an artist, and I found my most loved medium with glass. Flameworking lights up my spirit with inspiration. It is incredibly challenging and equally rewarding. The earth in the materials, the air of the breath, the fire that shapes it, and the water that breaks it help me feel ideas and think in layers. It rewires my being.
Life as a glass maker gave me early experience with unconventional travel through trips to participate in conferences, shows, and workshops. It taught me the value of staying grounded in the material world which I find more and more important as the digital becomes more dominant. It taught me the skill of thinking in layers which became a very important fundamental concept in map making for my cartography work later on. It made me want to sing more while I lost sense of time and heard my inner creator. I hope my work inspires you too.
Glass miniatures
I dream of home through a dollhouse
Miniatures are so fun and exciting to work with. My aunt made intricate dollhouses inspired by Colleen Moore's Fairy Castle in Chicago and that love was passed down to me. I make glass dollhouse miniatures because they help me feel connected to the idea of home. The possibilities are limitless for creating secret little worlds even when the reality of the big ones feels hard.
